Govt committed to protect citizens’ rights: Mazari

ISLAMABAD: Minster for Human Rights Shireen Mazari on Wednesday said the government was committed to protect the rights of every citizen including the rights of women and an awareness campaign had already been launched in this regard to educate the people.

Talking to a delegation led by member of Council of Islamic Ideology Allama Syed Iftikhar Hussain Naqvi, she assured to take prompt steps to redress the issues on priority and affirmed that the Ministry of Human Rights would provide all required support for the protection of women’s rights to inheritance.

During the meeting, they discussed the women’s inheritance related issues in detail.

The delegation also apprised the minister about some of the issues and put forward some suggestions in this regard.

Earlier in a statement, Mazari said the government had initiated an awareness campaign to educate masses about inheritance rights of women under Islamic jurisprudence and the constitution.

“The process of establishment of groups of pro bono lawyers in every district for legal aid to women vis-a-vis, inheritance issues are also in progress. State media channels also ran campaign in this regard,” she said.

Talking about protection of women, Shireen Mazari said the government was committed to ensure protection and promotion of women rights as envisaged under the constitution as well as international commitments by adopting all possible measures.
