Govt committee to hold direct talks with Taliban in next phase

MIRANSHAH: The government-nominated committee for peace talks will directly hold talks with the Taliban in the next phase, as Taliban committee is currently in North Waziristan to discuss a future roadmap in this regard, ARY News reported.

Sources told that Taliban committee proposed a venue in Bannu for holding talks with government committee. However, Taliban sought a guarantee in this regard.

The Taliban shura said a final decision regarding extension in ceasefire would be made after consultation with all the groups concerned. The meeting between the Taliban and their committee members was held in Tehsil Razmak that continued for hours. Later both the parties moved to an undisclosed location.

The government has just formed a new committee to hold talks with the Taliban.

The suggestions proposed by the Taliban would be communicated to the government by Taliban committee. Earlier, when government committee reached Miranshah in government chopper, political agent Siraj Ahmed Khan and security officials welcomed them.

The Taliban committee members who made it to North Waziristan in the second phase are Maulana Yousuf Shah, Prof. Ibrahim and JUI-S ameer North Waziristan, Maulana Abdul Hai Haqqani.
