According to Government spokesperson, Pakistan High Commission (HC) in London was directed to provide legal and moral assistance to the MQM Chief, Altaf Hussain, who was arrested by the London Metropolitan Police earlier today, on suspicion of money laundering.

Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif asked the Government of Sindh and the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to insure the safety of life and possessions of the people in Karachi.

MQM leaders had earlier advised the workers and supporters to remain peaceful and not to let miscreants exploit the situation.

In a statement issued in the evening, MQM spokesperson had clarified that those spreading violence in Karachi have nothing to do with the party and none of the  MQM workers can be involved in such activities.
