CHITRAL: A plantation drive initiated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government under the Billion Tree Afforestation Project kicked off in Chitral on Monday, ARY News reported.
Division Forest Officer (DFO) Chitral division Muhammad Saleem Marwat distributed 12000 sapling to the public through Tehsil Nazim Chitral Muhammad Ilyas.
A simple ceremony was held under the chair of Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Tehsil Nazim at Shahmirandeh (Singor) in this regard.
DFO Marwat, speaking on the occasion, said that no project can be successful without ownership and involvement of the local community.
He stressed upon the people to overcome the shortage of forests in the country.
Ilyas said that plantation is Sadqa-e-Jariya and Islam has emphasized on tree plantation.
He further stated that there is a shortage of potable drinking water in Shahmirandeh and the concerned authorities have been requested for the construction of a well in the area.
The nazim further said that people should cooperate and participate in plantation campaigns and play their role in making the campaign a success.
He also distributed free plants among the local people under Billion Tree Afforestation Project. Sub Divisional Forest Officer Asif Ali Shah and other officials were also present on the occasion.
DFO Saleem Marwat said that this is a part of Billion Tree Afforestation Project in which 3.1 million sapling will be planted in different parts of Chitral.
He also said that campaign can only achieve its target when the local community positively participates and play its role.
In 2015, Khan had inaugurated Billion Trees Tsunami Campaign by himself planting a sapling in Haripur.
It should be noted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had vowed to plant 1.2 billion trees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 2018.
