‘Govt making Pemra’s decision controversial’

TOP NEWS

LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed said government was making the decision of Pemra controversial, ARY News reported Wednesday.

Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra) had yesterday announced to suspend license of three Geo TV channels following large number of complaints against it, especially after the sacrilegious contant was aired on Geo morning show a week ago.

Talking to media in Lahore, he said Pemra had suspended licenses of three Geo TV channels – Geo News, Geo Tez and Geo Entertainment – but the transmission of all three channels was airing on the behest of government.

Rasheed said government wasted weeks on application of Defence Ministry, seeking action against Geo TV, mainly because it was patronizing the Geo.

He asked what the information ministry was waiting for, when Pemra had already directed to shut three Geo channels until further orders.
