Govt officials ‘dodge’ responsibility on Tharparkar deaths

TOP NEWS

KARACHI: Regardless of several deaths of children in drought-stricken Tharparkar district, the high-ups concerned in the province are indulged in a blame game instead of owning responsibility of government ‘shortcomings’, ARY News reported on Friday.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Maj. Gen. Muhammad Saeed Aleem stated that he had warned in January that famine might hit Tharparkar.

NDMA chairman said he had cautioned in January that drought situation would deteriorate in Tharparkar, leading to water crisis in the district. On the other side, Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani had the entire onus to medical superintendent of the hospital concerned for the situation.

Over three-dozen children have died so far due to famine-like situation in Thar, while government is yet to take measures to contain the alarming rise deaths in the district.
