ISLAMABAD: In reaction to PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif’s presser calling for the constitution of a parliamentary body to probe the alleged rigging in the July 25 polls, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the federal government was ready to constitute a commission as per demand of the opposition.
He said the opposition had so far failed to spell out the nature of the rigging allegations and Terms of References (TORs) to probe them.
He called on the opposition to present concrete proposal and evidence for the probe.
The minister regretted the opposition has been using the issue of election rigging for political gains and had not produced any concrete evidence in this regard.
A day earlier, leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to keep his word and form a parliamentary commission to probe allegations of rigging in the general elections.
He said the premier had himself made an unconditional promise with him during the election for prime minister in the National Assembly and added no commission has been notified despite the passage of three weeks.
He hoped that Mr Khan would soon fulfill his promise and will not add to what he said his U-turns.
The PML-N said they will not allow the National Assembly to work unless the commission is appointed.
