ISLAMABAD: Members of the Green Force Environment Commission called on the Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Monday at the Ministry of Climate Change in Islamabad.

The volunteer members of the commission headed by Bilal Haque are working for the preservation and protection of green belt and protected areas of Islamabad. They briefed the adviser about the impending threat to the green belts and protected areas of Islamabad.

The members stated that the master plan of Islamabad was a solemn document that should have been respected and followed but the government from time to time amended and breached it without providing a transparent process for its changes and modification, and suggested that the master plan of Islamabad should be changed and maintained in a transparent manner, with the spirit of the original plan being maintained and suggested that a committee with all stakeholders should be formed to review the plan in the light of law and current environmental status and climate change requirements.

The committee should be authorized to take concrete decisions. The member of the Green Force Environment Commission urged that as a model city Islamabad’s population should be kept in proportion to the available natural resources.

“In each sector there should be only one plaza allowed. Each building to dedicate 1/5 of its land for forest cover,” they said.

The members thanked Malik Amin Aslam for his precious time, cooperation and sincere efforts for protection and preservation of green belt and protected area.
