Gun-carrying US citizen held at Islamabad airport

RAWALPINDI: A US citizen was stopped from boarding a flight after a pistol and some rounds were recovered from his possession at Islamabad’s Benazir International Airport on Friday, ARY News reported.

Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel found a pistol and six to seven rounds of ammunition during checking. He was immediately taken into custody for probe.

ASF officials said the US citizen was heading to a Middle East country. He was handed over to police for investigation. The US citizen was identified as William Jones.

Sources informed that US Embassy had contacted officials concerned to seek release of Jones. The detained man is said to be an employee at US Embassy.

Police sources say they were under intense pressure to released the detained US citizen. It may be noted here that security is already beefed up across all major points including airports all over the country in view of security threat.
