Habib Jalib's wife Mumtaz Begum passes away

LAHORE: Mumtaz Begum, wife of the revolutionary poet Habib Jalib, breathed her last here on Monday in a miserable condition – ARY News reports.

According to details, Mumtaz Begum had been suffering from cardiac disease and she was residing at her daughter Tahira Jalib's house. The condition of the family was extremely poor.

Earlier in the morning, Mumtaz Begum's condition worsened and she could not even get a chance to be taken to hospital.

None of the Government or political figures visited the family of the renowned poet, who used to challenge dictators with his pen.

Habib Jalib's daughter, Tahira Jalib while talking to ARY News said that CM Shahbaz Sharif often recites the poems of her father and it is hoped that he will also bid farewell to Jalib's deceased wife.

She told that during her mother’s ailment, nobody visited them.

Elaborating further, Tahira stated that she met with poverty by the time she opened her eyes, yet being the daughter of a self-dependent father, she felt proud to work hard herself.

However, Mumtaz Begum was buried in the afternoon in the absence of any official from provincial or federal government, nor any political figure cared to attend her funeral.
