Half of 220 million ballot papers to be printed in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: After the go-ahead from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the process of printing 220 million ballot papers has begun countrywide.

According to ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Mohammad, half of the ballot papers would be printed in Karachi, around 32.5 million in Islamabad and the remaining at the printing press of the Postal Foundation in Islamabad.

He was talking to mediamen after visiting the Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP).

He said the printing of ballot papers has already started at three places in the country.

The ECP official informed that the printing process would be completed by July 20 after which the ballot papers would be sent to polling stations under strict security and with the assistance of Pakistan Army.

He said the ECP had prepared a comprehensive plan for dispatching the ballot papers to around 85,000 polling stations across the country.

He told journalists that the ballot papers would be sent to some far-flung areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan by air whereas these would be transported by road to other areas.

Meanwhile, the ECP has published the final lists of election candidates along with their symbols.

The lists of candidates have been displayed outside the offices of the returning officers and district returning officers across the country.

According to the schedule for the 2018 general elections, June 30 was the last day for publication of the final lists of candidates and allotment of election symbols.

A total of 21, 482 candidates had submitted nomination papers to contest the polls.
