One injured in hand grenade explosion near Karachi seminary

KARACHI: One person was injured when a suspected hand grenade exploded on Friday near a seminary located in Rizvia Housing Society, ARY News reported.

Counter-Terroism Department, Police and Pakistan Rangers Sindh reached the scene of the incident after receiving a complaint. However, law enforcers raised suspicion as the incident reportedly occurred at around 2:30PM while they received complaint at around 5PM.

Police arrested three suspects into custody and transferred them to an unknown location for further interrogation. They injured was shifted to hospital and was questioned. Furthermore, area residents were also questioned to investigate the nature of the incident.

Police recovered the detonator of the hand grenade but the lower portion was not found. The site of the incident was also washed out before the police arrived which increased further suspicion.

CTD officer Raja Umar Khattab said that explosion occurred due to detonator explosion and not a improvised bomb. He said the watchman of the seminary returned after having lunch and found the detonator on the ground which exploded soon afterwards.

He confirmed that the incident occurred at 2:30PM afternoon while police received a complaint at around 5PM, and the site was washed down before the police arrived. He said that investigations are underway and several students of the seminary were being questioned.

Inspector General Sindh has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG West.
