Heavy fog envelops Punjab, disrupts traffic on Motorway
LAHORE: Thick fog descended on plain areas of Punjab province on Friday morning, leading to closure of various sections of the Motorway owing to low visibility.
According to a spokesman of the Motorway police, Motorway M-2 Islamabad was closed for all kinds of traffic. Motorway M-2 from Kot Momin to Lahore and from Kot Momin to Faisalabad as well as Motorway M-4 from Gojra to Khanewal have been closed for all kinds of traffic owing to low visibility caused by dense fog.
Heavy fog also disrupted traffic on the highway from Lahore to Bahawalpur, reducing visibility to 100 meters. The commuters have been advised to use fog lights to avoid any mishap.
According to the Met Office very cold weather conditions are likely to prevail in northern parts of the country including Quetta and dense foggy conditions are likely over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.
Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, it further said. However, more rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at a few places in Malakand and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature was recorded -10°C in Quetta, followed by -07°C in Kalat, -06°C in Dalbandin, Malamjabba, Parachinar, Gupis, and -05°C in Astore.
