Helpline launched to assist women on legal rights

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Human Rights has launched a help line – 1099 – to assist women about the religious and legal protection and right to inheritance.

Muhammad Khawaja, an official of the ministry said that Federal Minister Dr Shireen Mazari was committed to providing women equal rights in federal and at provincial levels, this help line would further guide the woman about their share in property according to Islamic law and country’s law.

He said that the protection of women’s right to inheritance has been one of the priorities of incumbent government for equality and justice in the country.

He further said that under the campaign by ministry for women rights to inheritance, the awareness will be given for women share in property under the Islamic Jurisprudence and Constitution.

He highlighted social, cultural issues restricting women to get their due share in inherited property, so government is fully devoted to provide women speedy justice.

The Sindh government had also recently launched the ‘Sindh Legal Advisory Call Center’ aimed at providing legal help to people.

Any person across the Pakistan could call the SLACC free of cost on toll free no. 0800-70806 for seeking legal advice on civil , criminal , public service related matters.

SLACC was launched under a project ” the Legal Empowerment of People Programme in Sindh ” ( LEPPS) in public private partnership in collaboration with Legal Aid Society a nonprofit organization run under the chair of Honorable Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid.
