IGP asked to oversee probe into Tania murder case, provide protection to family

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the provincial police chief to oversee investigation into the murder of a 19-year-old-girl allegedly shot dead by a land lord upon her parents’ refusal to marry her to him.

It directed the inspector general of police to provide round-the-clock security to the girl’s family.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh directed DIG Hyderabad Khadim Hussain to submit a progress report on investigation into the murder case on the next hearing.

Tania Khaskheli, 19, was murdered in her house on Sept 09 by a land lord over marriage proposal in Jhangara Bajara town in the Dadu district.

The chief justice had taken notice of the local police dragging their feet to arrest the murderers enjoying backing of some influential people.

The DIG told the judges that the accused persons, including the prime suspect, have been rounded up and their physical remand was also obtained from the relevant court for interrogation.

According to Tania’s parents, the influential land lord of Jhangara Bajara town, Khan Noohani, along with his armed associated barged into the house and tried to kidnap her, but due to strong resistance put up by the family, he got furious and shot dead her.

Khan had been pressing them to marry Tania to him but they had turned down the proposal, they said and alleged that Khan had twice tried to kidnap her in the recent past.

Subsequently, the family had registered an FIR against Khan Noohani, Maula Bukhsh and other unknown culprits at the Jhangara Bajara police station.
