IHC suspends notices issued to three PEMRA members

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended the show-cause notice issued to three members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) – ARY News reports.

According to details, the IHC suspended the show-cause notices during the hearing of a petition filed by PEMRA members Israr Abbasi, Mian Shams and Fariha Iftikhar, against the notices issued to them.

The honorable court also suspended the appointment of PEMRA member, Kamaluddin Tipu as the member of executive council.

Moreover, tomorrow's meeting of PEMRA on Geo TV issue, has also been cancelled by the IHC.

Earlier, the three private members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Mian Shams, Fariha Iftikhar and Israr Abbasi had consulted the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on the issue of show-cause notices issued to them for giving a decision against Geo TV.

The members had stated that they are being victimized for giving a justified decision on Geo TV issue.

They had also taken the stance that tomorrow's meeting of PEMRA is illegal, while the Ministry of Information issued show-cause notices to them in contradiction with the rules and regulations.
