Obtaining Indian citizenship was certainly a challenge for the singer, since he had been pursuing it for a long time. However, the new year proved to be a good luck charm for Sami, since the Indian government approved his request and granted him citizenship status.
Adnan Sami Khan had requested the Indian Home Ministry on May 26 to grant him citizenship on humanitarian grounds. He had been allowed to stay for an indefinite period in the country and it was being touted that he was on his way to becoming an Indian officially.

Adnan took to his Twitter account and tweeted a line from the famous Indian movie Gandhi, to depict his joyous feeling.

Earlier, Adnan had also thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and officials of the Indian government for granting him Indian citizenship.

Adnan Sami has sung quite popular hits in India and his rendition of Bhar De Jholi for blockbuster film Bajrangi Bhaijaan also proved to be quite popular for his fan base. The song attracted criticism from Amjad Sabri, who accused Sami of copying it without his permission.
