ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan addressed the nation today (Friday) over taxation and asset declaration scheme introduced by the government, ARY News reported.

The Prime Minister reiterated his anti-corruption stance and emphasized consequences for those found embroiled in tax theft and economic corruption.

PM Khan in his short address said that the nation needs to come together and help the government in achieving it’s economic goals.

“This is a golden opportunity to declare assets and take ownership of properties which are ‘benami’, said Khan.

Referring to the natural calamities occurring in the form of an earthquake in 2005 and the floods of 2010 the Prime Minister asked for the same united resolve from the nation to tackle economic issues.

“We have to gather Rs.5000 billion next year,” declared the Prime Minister.

Khan added that if the nation makes a concrete decision then it has the capacity to generate in access of Rs.8000 billion on an yearly basis.

Issuing a warning to those trying to evade and hide from the process of accountability, Khan issued a warning that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has compiled all the data and he does not want to cause undue duress to the people, hence the offer for asset declaration.

PM Khan revealed that the last date to submit asset details and take ownership of undeclared properties was June 30.

In conclusion the Prime Minister added that he wants to alleviate poverty and make a bright future for the youth of Pakistan and to achieve those goals, necessary measures shall be undertaken.
