KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Thursday submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming general elections from NA-243 constituency in Karachi.
PTI leader Asad Umar said that Imran Khan would contest the elections from four or five different constituencies scattered across the country. Umar himself has submitted his nomination papers from NA-54 Islamabad.
During the 2013 elections, Imran had contested from NA-1 Peshawar, NA- 56 Rawalpindi, NA-71 Mianwali, and NA-126 Lahore. He won three out of the four seats and lost the Lahore constituency to PML-N’s Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Imran Khan has announced his decision to contest the upcoming from Karachi. Last month, he had announced a ten-point agenda for Karachi which dealt with a range of issues including law and order, education, health, police force and other areas.
NA-243 (Karachi East-II) is a newly-created a constituency for the National Assembly of Pakistan. It mainly comprises of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Subdivision, and parts of Jamshed Quarters. The constituency was created in the delimitation from areas of old NA-252 and the section of Gulshan-e-Iqbal in NA-253.
Many political heavyweights are expected to contest the the polls from Karachi. Earlier Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal submitted his nomination from NA-246 Lyari. Pakistan Sarzameen Party Chairman Mustafa Kamal submitted his nomination papers from three constituencies of Karachi.
Furthermore, prominent human rights activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir has also announced to contest as an independent candidate.
