ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and country’s likely new prime minster Imran Khan on Wednesday nominated MPA-elect Mehmood Khan as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s next chief minister, ARY News reported.

According to PTI media cell, Mehmood Khan, who was elected from PK-9 Swat-VIII constituency of KP Assembly, has now been chosen to lead the KP assembly as CM.

Imran Khan-led PTI ruled the province from 2013 to 2018 before July 25 general elections with Pervez Khattak serving as CM.

As the party again gained majority in the KP Assembly after polls, it held consultative sessions at chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala attended by large number of party workers and prospective candidates.

Former KP chief minister Pervez Khattak was reportedly out of the race from the very start while former KP education minister Atif Khan and former sports minister Mehmood Khan emerged as top choices for the coveted post during the consultative sessions.

According to ARY News correspondent, there were two lobbies within the party’s KP chapter wanting to bring their own chief minister. Pervez Khattak, the former chief minister, was backing Mehmood Khan while the other lobby was backing Atif Khan.

It is pertinent to note here that Imran Khan-led PTI emerged as the biggest party in the center, KP and Punjab and is about to form governments.
