ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday blasted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, alleging that they both are amassing wealth.

Speaking to the media after his appearance before an anti-terrorism court here, the PTI chief alleged the elder Sharif was using the PML-N government at the center to accumulate wealth while his younger brother was making a fast buck in Punjab.

He said the statement of Faisal Subhan, director of Capital Construction and Engineering Ltd, given to the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) exposed financial irregularities in Multan Metro bus project.

Khan said Subhan confessed to being a front man of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and accused the latter of making money by awarding a contract of Multan Metro bus project in violation of the relevant rules.

After former premier Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, Imran claimed, his younger brother was also found to have committed corruption.

He labeled Nawaz and Shahbaz as “godfather and chota don (small don),” respectively.

The PTI chief alleged Ahad Cheema, former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general, who is facing over Rs14 billion corruption case, was too a front man of the chief minister.

If this was the level of corruption in the Multan Metro bus project, one could image how much taxpayers’ money would have been embezzled in multi-billion Orange Line Metro Train project, he said.

Imran said Shahbaz spent nine trillion rupees of public money through the provincial bureaucracy over the past few years.
