ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has requested Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak not to deport Nat Geo famed ‘Afghan Girl’, Sharbat Gula, ARY News reported.

“I want to request CM KP and the KP govt not to deport Sharbat Gulla to Afghanistan on humanitarian/compassionate grounds,” he said in a tweet.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) last month had arrested Sharbat Gulla from the north-western city of Peshawar for forgery of a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) after the police registered a case against three persons of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for allegedly issuing a CNIC to Gula on October 21 following which a search to find her was launched.

A special anti-corruption court on Friday sent Sharbat Gulla to 15 days imprisonment with a fine of Rs110,000. She will also be deported to Afghanistan at the end of her sentence as per the court’s order.

Green-eyed Gulla had always insisted that she never deceptively obtained a Pakistani CNIC.
