NEW DELHI: The government of India has appointed Ajay Bisaria as the new High Commissioner to Pakistan.

He will replace incumbent Indian envoy Gautam Bambawale, who has been appointed the ambassador to China. Bisaria is currently serving as India’s ambassador to Poland. He is expected to take up his new position in Pakistan in October.

According to Times of India, the shuffle was made after India’s ambassador to China Vijay Gokhale was appointed as Secretary Economic Relations in India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

Gokhale is tipped as India’s next foreign secretary in case government doesn’t give another extension to S Jaishankar in January.

Bisaria has also served as private secretary of India’s earlier BJP prime minister Vajpayee from 1999 to 2004 and handled a range of defence, economic and foreign policy issues.
