NEW DEHLI: As tensions seemed to gradually cool down between the nuclear-armed neighbours, Indian media came up with another implausible claim about its pilot Abhinandan Varthaman shooting down Pakistan’s F-16 on Feb 27.

In what can be termed as an addition to the list of its whoppers, the Indian government made an official announcement that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman shot down Pakistan’s F-16.

The international media has already dubbed the aerial combat of Feb 27 as an ’embarrassing episode‘ for the Indian Air Force at the hands of Pakistan Air Force which shot down two of their warplanes, killing one pilot and arresting the other, who ejected himself out of the crashing jet in Jammu and Kashmir.

To top it off, the Indian government realized to narrate this tall story 10 days following  the dogfight in the Pakistani airspace. Moreover, the mention of pilot Abhinandan as the one who shot down PAF’s jet is extremely gibberish, since the Indian wing commander has already met a very humiliating end on Pakistani soil after being captured by the country.

Later, Pakistani officials handed over IAF wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman to Indian counterparts at Wahga Border crossing, on March 1 as a gesture of peace from Pakistan to de-escalate the soaring tensions with New Delhi.

The environment between the neighbouring countries turned hostile in a tit-for-tat airstrikes following the Pulwama attack that killed over 40 Indian troops in occupied Kashmir on Feb 14.
