According to Indian media, the 16-member team had arrived from Colombo Sunday night however, they were denied permission to participate in the tournament on Monday morning owing to security reasons.

They later left for home. The Under-15 private tournament is scheduled to be held from August 4-7.

Some political analysts are linking the incident after the row over controversial articles and pictures of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and the Indian prime minister used in an article on official Sri Lankan website.

The article triggered widespread public and political outrage in the state prompting Sri Lanka to remove it and issue an unqualified apology to the two leaders.

The Sri Lankan government said in a statement that the article was published “without proper authorization and it doesn’t reflect the government’s official position.”
