LAHORE: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj-ul-Haq on Tuesday said India was waging water aggression against Pakistan. India was diverting Pakistan’s water by constructing the controversial dam on the river, he said.

Pakistan believes that the recent inauguration of Kishanganga dam by India without resolution of the water disputes was violation of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT). The project is seen as a continuation of water aggression of India against its neighbouring country.

Talking to media in Lahore, Siraj said the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government had kept future of the nation as mortgage by taking huge debts.

However, he said, completion of the federal government’s tenure was a good sign for democracy, nevertheless the promises made by the government were not fulfilled.

The JI chief said there was no political harmony because of different governments in the four provinces. The democracy could only be stabilized in the country by promoting democratic norms, he said.

“Masses’ issues are the same that were before 2013,” he said.
