Indian troops martyr five Kashmiris

SRINAGAR: Indian troops on Thursday martyred one more youth in Baramulla district, occupied Kashmir, raising the toll to five in less than past 24 hours.

In fresh act of state terrorism, the troops killed the youth during a cordon and search operation in Rafiabad area. Four youth were killed by the troops in the same area on Wednesday evening.

Another youth identified as, Arif Sofi, who was subjected to ruthless torture after being abducted by Indian agents in Kulgam, succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Srinagar.

Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Gilani paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Gurez and Rafiabad and said that Indian stubbornness was the main reason behind the killings in Kashmir.

He urged the UN Secretary General to intervene for resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Gilani appealed to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights to take cognizance of the plight of detenues lodged in different Indian jails.

The Kashmir Bar Association in a statement urged the International Committee of Red Cross and other human rights organizations to send their teams to see for themselves the plight of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson Aasiya Andrabi and her associates Nahida Nasreen and Fahmida Sofi languishing in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Liberation Front and Muslim League in their separate statements condemned the harassment of Hurriyat leaders and activists.

The occupation authorities disallowed jailed Hurriyat leader Sarjan Barkati to attend the funeral of his uncle who died in Islamabad district on Wednesday.

Police arrested member of so-called Kashmir Assembly Engineer Abdur Rasheed when he tried to lead a march in Srinagar to express solidarity with the Muslims of Jammu region. Police used force to thwart a teachers’ protest march towards the civil secretariat in the city.

Four Kashmiri students studying at a Benguluru college in Indian state of Karnataka were barred from attending their nursing classes for growing beard. The students were asked by the college principal to either shave off their beard or leave the college.
