Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has stated that the Government of Pakistan is committed to promote an understanding of disability issues, mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of Persons with Disabilities.
“A barrier free inclusive society is vital to the success of any democratic process”, the Prime Minister said in his message on the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons.
The Prime Minister said that in today’s competitively driven economy, every Pakistani has to work hard for the betterment of our beloved country.
“Hence, I urge upon special persons to come forward and play their constructive role for development of Pakistan. I assure full facilitation by the Government”, he added.
The Prime Minister further said that the present government is fully aware of the needs of the special persons and is committed to help them maintain their health and lives with respect.
Unfortunately in Pakistan disable persons are not facilitated the way they should be. We often see in numerous government offices that wheel chairs and other services which should be provided to disable persons are not available.
Although not all of the government institutions are the same but as this issue is not given priority which demoralizes disable persons of the society as they feel being left out.
There are no special programs for the employment of disable persons on large scale in Pakistan. Due to this majority of such class spends most of their life with no productivity. If skill based employment opportunities are provided to them than there is no doubt that these people can become an integral part of country’s economic development.
