Iranian foreign minister in Islamabad to hold talks with Pakistani leadership

ISLAMABAD: Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in the federal capital last night on a three-day visit to hold talks with Pakistani leadership. 

He was warmly welcomed by senior officials of Foreign Ministry at Islamabad Airport.

Zarif is scheduled to meet with President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other dignitaries.

Zarif will also hold meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa. He will leave for Karachi on March 13 from where he will return to Tehran.

The visiting Iranian foreign minister would also hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on various issues of mutual interests, regional situation with emphasis on Afghanistan and exploring the ways and means to further expand the cooperation in various areas.

During the talks with Pakistani leadership, the two sides would also discuss the possibilities of cooperation in connectivity projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Iranian news agency reported earlier.

The Iranian foreign minister is also scheduled to give a lecture on “70 Years of Pakistan-Iran Relations and Future Prospects” on March 12 at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI).
