ISLAMABAD: The technical committee of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has predicted 35 percent water shortfall in Kharif season this year, during a meeting which recommended deduction of river water supply share of Sindh and Punjab provinces, ARY News reported.
Director Operational IRSA chaired the meeting to review the availability of water for irrigation in upcoming Kharif season.
All four representatives of the provinces along with Wapda and other officials of concerned departments were present in the meeting.
According to the sources, a 113 million acre feet shortfall of water is expected in rivers during Kharif season this year resulting in 40 percent loss of water in Indus while 10 percent in Chenab river.
The meeting decided to exempt Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces from deduction in their share of river water.
The final approval on recommended deduction in water share would be given by IRSA advisory committee in its meeting on March 31.
