MUMBAI: Veteran actress Rekha often comes under media limelight but not always for the good reasons. According to latest report going rounds in the Indian media, the actress got hitched to actor Sanjay Dutt, prompting quick response from those attributed in the reports.
Last year, Yasser Usman, the writer of ‘Rekha: The Untold Story’ published the book. It came to light recently that Rekha apparently had secretly married her co-star and actor Sanjay Dutt. The reports went so viral in the Indian media that the writer of Rekha’s biography was forced to break silence on the rumours.
During an interview with Hindustan Times, Usman said, “This is wrong. Nothing of this sort has been mentioned in my book. People don’t read properly.”
While narrating the incident quoted in his book, Usman said, “Rekha and Sanjay Dutt were working in a film together, probably Zameen Aasmaan (1984). The rumours of their affair surfaced at that time. In fact, some went on to say that they got married. These rumours became so strong that Sanjay Dutt had to deny the allegations in a magazine. It was an official denial.”
“There wasn’t any marriage. This became big only because Dutt had to deny it officially,” added Usman.
Controversy with Amitabh
Her biography do highlight some controversial, scandalous and unknown stories about the actress. The book also sheds light on the much public affair Rekha had with Amitabh Bachchan – the troubled relationship and shocking developments in its follow-up.
In a certain portion in the book, it is revealed that how Rekha shocked everyone at the Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh wedding by wearing sindoor on her forehead. The guests and the media couldn’t stop wondering if Rekha had got secretly married. At the same party, Rekha went up to Big B and started chatting with him which apparently left Jaya Bachchan fuming.
Reportedly, the off-screen meet-ups had caused a crack in the Amitabh-Jaya relationship too. Reports suggest that Jaya had even barred Big B from acting with Rekha.
In an interview with Stardust magazine in 1978, Rekha had made some shocking and explosive revelations about her love affair with Mr. Bachchan. She targeted Jaya who she felt was responsible for Big B’s decision, of never working with her again.
