Ishtiaq Muqam, others handed over to FIA for three-day physical remand

PESHAWAR: An Anti-Corruption Court has granted Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) three-day physical remand of Ishtiaq Ameer Muqam and four other accused over charges of corruption in a road construction contract, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Ishtiaq, the son of Amir Muqam, president of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, and other accused were sent on remand when they were presented before the court by FIA officials today.

The accused persons have denied the charges in the court.

FIA officials told ACC that the accused persons have failed to complete a project in 10 years which was estimated to be constructed within the period of one year. The officials said that national treasury received approximately Rs2 billion loss due to delay in road construction.

Earlier in the day, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Ishtiaq Ameer Muqam over corruption charges.

According to the agency, Muqam’s son Ishtiaq among five contractors were arrested by the FIA soon after completion of an inquiry into alleged corruption in the construction of Alpuri Road in KP’s Shangla district.

“A case had also been registered pertaining to alleged corruption in the construction of the aforesaid road, with the concerned project director, contractors National Highways Authority (NHA) officials and engineers nominated in it”, sources said.

Sources further said the FIA has recommended departmental action against 11 NHA officials and blacklisting of Ameer Muqam and Company.
