TOP NEWS

DUBAI: West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell is out of Pakistan Super League (PSL) after suffering a freak hamstring injury which needs at least two weeks’ rest, sources said Tuesday.

The 29-year-old all-rounder had to leave the field after suffering a hamstring injury while fielding in the match against Karachi Kings at Sharjah on Sunday and was unable to bowl and bat in the match.

He is likely to recover from the injury in time to play for Kolkatta Knight Riders after he was retained by the franchise. The IPL starts on April 7.

Russell , who missed last year’s PSL due to a ban on doping whereabouts clause, had managed four wickets in the three games and had scores of 11, nought and 15. His best contribution came in the Super over against Lahore when he hit a six off the last ball.

Islamabad United vice captain Rumman Raees is also sidelined with a leg injury and will not be available for Thursday’s game against Lahore Qalandars in Dubai.

Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was also carrying a hamstring injury as he missed the first two matches while leg-spinner Shadab Khan is also carrying niggles, mainly elbow problem.
