ROME: An Italian woman , after failing to find a perfect soulmate, made an unusual decision to marry herself in a bizarre ceremony.
Laura Mesi had always dreamed, reports local media, of a huge, fairytale wedding in front of family and friends. So dressed in a traditional wedding gown, with a retinue of bridesmaids and a special ring she wed herself.
She told La Repubblica newspaper: ‘I told friends and family that if I had not found my soul-mate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself.
‘If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I’ll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him. ‘This is my fairytale wedding – only without a Prince Charming.’ After the ceremony – carried out by wedding celebrant Ramiro Humberto Romero – Laura cut the cake, decorated with just a bride on the top tier. Guests toasted the happy single with personally bottled champagne with a label saying ‘Single.’
The wedding has gained a huge following on social media where Laura (Italian woman) has shared more than 120 photos of her big day under the title ‘Laura Mesi Sposa Single’, or ‘Laura Mesi Single Bride.’
She declared: ‘Love yourself before anyone else.’ She paid for the £8,700 ceremony herself, although it is not legally binding and she can divorce herself at any time. The happy single went on holiday by herself to Egypt.
