ISLAMABAD: The authorities of Adiala Jail informed an accountability court on Thursday that they can not present incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif before the court tomorrow due to security risk.

“Rallies and sit-ins are scheduled for tomorrow which is why we cannot bring Nawaz Sharif to court tomorrow,” the jail authorities told the court.

Under the supervision of accountability court II Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik, the hearing of the Al-Azizia and Flagship cases against the Sharif family was resumed.

During the hearing, defence counsel Khawaja Harris started questioning Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head and prosecution’s star witness Wajid Zia. But Zia refused to answer few questions saying, “Harris Sb is asking technical questions which I can only answer based on my general knowledge so there can be mistakes,” Wajid Zia told court.

Moreover, Khawaja Harris inquired Zia whether the JIT sought a financial statement from Saudi authorities of audited accounts of Hill Metals Establishment.

“To answer this question, I will have to check the Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) agreement written with Saudi authorities, which is in volume 10 of the report, and I do not have access to it right now,” he said.

In the course of hearing, Nawaz’s counsel traded barbs with National Accountability Bureau’s prosecutor couple of times.
