QUETTA: A meeting of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and its coalition partners was held in Quetta, chaired by Jam Kamal, to discuss formation of the new provincial government in the province.

The meeting unanimously nominated President Balochistan Awami Party, Jam Kamal Khan for the office of the chief minister of Balochistan while former chief minister Mir Abdul Qaddus Bizenjo was nominated as speaker of the provincial assembly.

MPAs-elect and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Awami National Party, Hazara Democratic Party and Jamhoori Watan Party also attended the meeting.

Later, talking to the newsmen, Jam Kamal Khan said they enjoy simple majority in the provincial legislature with the support of 33 MPAs.

The number of BAP legislators,with inclusion of the independent candidates who joined the party, rose to 18 in the Balochistan Assembly with total of 51 general assembly seats excluding reserved seats.

There has been a split mandate in Balochistan following the July 25 poll results since no single political party in the province was able to secure an overwhelming majority.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) statistics, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) got eight seats, the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) got seven seats and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) got five seats in the province.
