ISLAMABAD: Veteran politician Javed Hashmi, who ditched Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) after developing difference with him over the Islamabad sit-in in 2014, has decided to rejoin the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

Quoting sources, ARY News reported the noted politician met the ousted prime minister and PML-N president Nawaz Sharif at the Punjab House here today, where he decided in principle to rejoin his previous party.

Sources say Hashmi would organize a public meeting in Multan, where the former premier Nawaz Sharif will formally announce his rejoining of the PML-N.

Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique were also present on the occasion.

Hashmi had previously worked as the vice president of the ruling PML-N and was the face of the party in the difficult days after Musharraf’s military takeover. However, later he bid it adieu to join the PTI.

Later, he also quit that party after developing serious differences with PTI chief Imran Khan over the party’s sit-in in the capital over alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections.

Hashmi had accused Khan of pursuing a plan allegedly scripted by the army to overthrow the Sharif’s government.

Javed Hashmi had join the PTI on December 24, 2011 and was elected to the post of central president in March 2013.
