Jayawardene to retire from T20s after World T20

KARACHI: Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene announced on Monday his retire from 20 over format after the World T20, ARY News reports from Karachi.

The announcement came a day after seasoned Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara announced to hang his boots from the same format.

However, He will still feature in different cricketing brands around the world.

"The decision to retire from format was made after serious consideration", Jayawardene said.

The ongoing World T20 in Bangladesh will be his last tournament in the shortest format of the game.

He has scored 1335 runs in 49 games for the Sri Lankan team. He has also scored a century in T-20 format as well.

Mahela Jayawardene is amongst the only six players who have scored a ton in all three formats of the sport.
