JIT head says presented ‘truth’ before the court

ISLAMABAD: Wajid Zia, the head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which investigated the Panama Papers case against Sharif family, said on Monday that he and his team have succeeded in presenting the truth before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, ARY News reported.

As the team presented its final report with the apex court on Monday and Wajid Zia, Federal Investigation Agency’s Additional Direc­tor General (immigration), said the investigation was a daunting task and he was looking for truth which the team successfully presented before the court.

He thanked all the relevant departments and his fellow JIT members for helping in investigation and completing the task within the given time.

In May, the apex court finalised the names of the six-member joint investigation team to investigate the Panama Papers case under the Supreme Court judgement of April 20.

Wajid Zia was nominated to head the committee which included Amer Aziz of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Bilal Rasool of the SECP, Irfan Naeem Mangi from  NAB, Brig Muhammad Nauman Saeed from ISI and Brig Kamran Khurshid from the MI.

The team submitted its fourth and final report to the Supreme Court today and it recommended the apex court to file reference against the prime minister and his two sons under NAB Ordinance.

The probe body also recommended the court that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should initiate inquiry against PM and his two sons as well as Maryam Nawaz.
