LONDON: In her first reaction to party leader Daniyal Aziz’s disqualification, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Thursday said that those doing this “injustice” with PML-N leaders should just disqualify the whole party to stop it from winning the general elections, ARY News reported.

Speaking media in London, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that those who are disqualifying the party’s leaders one by one should clearly say that they are foreseeing a PML-N victory in upcoming general elections so they want the party to wipe out before the exercise.

“I think those who are disqualifying our leaders one by one should come out and say that we are foreseeing a PML-N victory (in polls) so we just want the whole PML-N out of this (electoral) race. I think this would be better,” said Maryam Nawaz.

She, however, did not answer when asked about boycotting polls if the trend continues.

‘A Dangerous Game’

PML-N’s lifelong leader Nawaz Sharif, on the other hand, said that this (disqualification of PML-N leaders) is a very dangerous game.

“First you ousted our premier (Nawaz himself), now you are also targeting his party leaders, this is a very dangerous game that is being played,” said Nawaz.

He maintained that his party is the only target of such vengeful tactics.

It is pertinent to note here that the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday held PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz in contempt of court, and sentenced him till the rising of the court, which rendered him disqualified to contest elections for a period of five years.

According to Article 63 (1)(g) of the Constitution, a person shall be disqualified from being elected or chosen as, and from being, a member of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament), if he has been convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction…unless a period of five years has elapsed since his release

Just yesterday, former premier and PML-N stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was disqualified by an election tribunal.

In July last year, Nawaz Sharif himself was disqualified by the Supreme Court for not being “honest and righteous” as he failed to declare in 2013 a salary he got from the company of his son in the UAE.

He had to leave premiership of the country. In February, the top court also disqualified him as the head of the ruling PML-N.
