Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan takes oath as acting CJP
ISLAMABAD: Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan on Friday took oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) as Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa attending a moot of jurists in Sri Lanka.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed administered the oath to the acting chief justice at a ceremony held in the apex court premises. Supreme Court judges, senior lawyers, and Attorney General of Pakistan attended the oath taking ceremony.
Justice Khan will perform duties as the CJP until Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who along with Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has been in Sri Lanka, returns home after attending a conference of the jurists of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc).
It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan had authored the landmark verdict that disqualified former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for concealing his salary from a UAE-based company owned by his son.
On July 28, the apex court had disqualified Nawaz Sharif for being dishonest by concealing his salary from a Dubai-based company and directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file references against him and his children on the basis of the report of a joint investigation team that probed the off-shore properties of Sharif family.
