Justice Sair Ali appointed as interim chairman PCB

ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday has appointed a former judge Justice Muhammad Sair Ali as interim chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and chief election commissioner, ARY News reported.

Justice Muhammad Sair Ali has been directed by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), which oversees sports, to ensure that elections are held within 30 days. Ali will also take over as acting chairman of the PCB.

According to the statement issued by IPC, “Justice Sair is appointed election commissioner with immediate effect as per requirements laid down in the new PCB constitution and will hold elections of PCB chairman within the next 30 days.”

Two former chairmen Najam Sethi and Shaharayar Khan have been nominated in the governing board.

Najam Sethi has already announced that he will not take part in the election which will allow Shaharayar Khan to be appointed as chairman PCB once again.

Previously, Shaharyar Khan had served as chairman PCB from 2003 to 2006 and if he succeeds it will be the first time that a person elected twice for the post.
