According to SSP Farooq Awan, most culprits involved in bank heists had either been killed or arrested. In the past, banned militants such as Jundullah and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) used to commit such bank robberies. The robbed sum was then used to carry out terrorism within the country.

On Saturday morning, a Special Investigation Unit team conducted a raid at Korangi’s Bilal Colony area in order to arrest suspects linked to bank heists. Suspects opened fire upon seeing the police and upon retaliation by the law enforcement personnel, two suspects were shot dead. The deceased suspects were identified as Farooq alias ‘Chooha’ and Imran Qureshi. One accomplice of the suspects was taken into custody, who was identified as Mohommad Asif.

SSP Special Investigation revealed that during the past two years, no militant outfits had been involved in the bank heists that had taken place. However, he did admit that in the past such outfits such as Jundullah and TTP had robbed banks.

During the years 2015 and 2016, the groups Bangla and Tigers named after criminals were involved in bank robberies. Police has almost completely decimated their network and four cases of bank robberies pertaining to this year have also been solved.
