KARACHI: The Bomb Disposal Squad on Wednesday defused a bomb device in SITE area of Karachi, ARY News reports.

A bomb was also found outside the office of ARY News in the same area yesterday.  

The residents found a suspicious bag near the Naurus Chowrangi in SITE area and informed police, which confirmed presence of a bomb device in the bag.

The law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and called the bomb disposal squad, which defused the bomb device.

Around 12 kilograms of explosives were used in the bomb device, which also contained  ball bearings, bomb disposal officers said.

Police launched a search operation in the area after finding the bomb.

The incident caused panic and fear in the area. 

A bomb was found at the parking lot of the office of ARY News in the same area yesterday. 

The act was condemned by the journalist associations and the civil society members as an attempt to threaten the media.

Terrorist attack fears have heightened in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, after a number of attacks at media offices and against media workers.  

It is pertinent to mention that the office of Aaj News and Waqt News were targeted in two attacks on past Monday. Two persons were injured in the attack on Aaj News office whereas the device hurled in the office of Waqt News did not explode.
