According to eye witnesses, a fire erupted in the car which was being driven by its owner on the road that leads from Bilawal House roundabout towards Boat Basin and Mai Kolachi on Khayaban-e-Saadi.

The owner, who managed to get out of the vehicle before the fire got out of control, said that it was most likely due to a short circuit in the car’s battery. Fire fighters were also called to douse the flames, but the fire had largely damaged the vehicle by then.

The vehicle was a 2004 Suzuki Alto registered in the name of an overseas bank.

A fire tender managed to reach the scene within 10-15 minutes and managed to put out the fire within a couple of minutes. The fire fighters did not have any protective masks given that the burning car was billowing large plumes of black smoke.

The incident also caused a little disruption to traffic flow.
