Karachi: Defence exhibition’s security leaves road users suffering

KARACHI: The ‘extra-ordinary’ security arrangements for defence exhibition ‘IDEAS 2014’ at Karachi’s Expo Centre have provoked serious traffic gridlocks to surrounding thoroughfares, leaving motorists in disarray, ARY News reported.

Key arteries connecting Hasan Square, Nipa, Stadium Road and Karsaz were badly snarled up with no traffic sergeants in sight to ease the misery of road users.

The administration also apparently failed to implement alternative traffic arrangement plan, if they had any.

Stringent security measures have been adopted as foreign delegates, dignitaries and representatives are due to visit the exhibition.

Road from Baitul Mukarram leading to Expo Centre has been blocked with a container. All these roads will be closed from 8am to 6pm throughout four days of the exhibition, thus adding to the miseries of citizens.

In the wake of road blockades, huge bottlenecks were witnessed at Jail Road, Liaquatabad no.10 intersection, Stadium Road and other adjoining arteries.
