Karachi: Gangster killed, dozens arrested in raids by LEAs

KARACHI: An alleged gangster killed in an encounter with police in old city area of Lyari while as many as 23 miscreants including drug peddlers, target killers and extortionists were arrested in separate raids by Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in different parts of the metropolis on late Thursday night, ARY News reported.

An alleged gangster – Ahsan Irani – was killed in a gun battle with police in Ali Muhammad Colony of Lyari. The slain gangster was said to be the commander of Ghafar Zikri gang, police sources said.

Separately, Rangers detained six suspects during raids at different areas of the city. The arrests include three members of a political party’s militant wing, Rangers officials said.

According to statement issued here by the paramilitary force, Kamran Ahmed, Raheel Hussain, and Abdul Raheem were involved in target killings, extortion, and torching vehicles. However, no more details pertaining to their political affiliation were shared.

Meanwhile, the paramilitary force arrested two dacoits in separate raids at Jamshed Quarters and Korangi while a drug peddler was taken into custody in Baghdadi area of the city.

In another raid Police arrested three suspects from Pakistan Bazaar by recovering weapon and drugs from their possession.

Yet in another raid, police raided Karnaal Basti, Nishtar Basti and surrounding areas and arrested extortionists and street criminals by recovering weapons and ammunition from their possession.

Meanwhile, Rangers and Police arrested 10 suspects from Patel Para, Baloch Para, and Ghousia Colony of the city in a joint-raid. Bio-metric identification of the suspected miscreants was also conducted. However, no more details pertaining to identification of the culprits were shared.
