The strong winds of dust storm that grappled Karachi city on Sunday night uprooted several trees and electricity poles in various areas of the city, resulting in the blockages of roads and streets.

But the citizens of Karachi reported and recorded several police officials who stepped in to help the citizens in the trying time not only by enforcing traffic rules and law and order, but by also removing befallen trees from the roads.

In a video reportedly from the city’s financial hub I.I Chundgrigar Road, the Station House Officer of Kharadar Police Station Ms Shabana is seen removing the fallen branches from the pavement and putting them in the nearby parked Police mobile along with her team even as strong winds make the task cumbersome for them.

Similarly, an unnamed traffic police cop can be seen axing a fallen tree in Akbar Road area of the city, which had blocked the road for the traffic.

Whereas the citizens lauded the police officials for their conscientious efforts, they also criticised the civic institutions for failing to do their job properly, leaving it up to the police officials to do the task.

A twitterati wrote that it was a ‘positive image of Karachi’ but also wrote that it was not their job.

Another twitterati called it ‘good optics but bad governance’ and questioned where was Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) whose duty is to step in to keep the city running in a clockwork.
