Karachi: Rangers foil terror attack plot on Youm-e-Ali
KARACHI: Acting swiftly, Rangers personnel have arrested four suspects on Saturday who were allegedly planning a terror attack on Youm-e-Ali occasion in the city, ARY News reported.
The arrests were made in two separate raids in Baldia Town and Orangi Town of the metropolis.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, the suspects intended to carry out a suicide attack on Youm-e-Ali procession. The alleged terrorists were said to be affiliated with the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).
Huge cache of arms and ammunition besides explosive material were seized in the two raids. However, the details pertaining to the identification of suspects could not be ascertained immediately.
Moreover, as many as 5,570 police personnel have been deployed across the city to ensure security of the participants of the mourning processions and gatherings.
The provincial government on Thursday had issued notifications, banning pillion riding on motorcycle and the use of heli-cam for media coverage on the occasion to avoid any untoward incident.
