Karachi: Six robbers steal Rs2 mln in bank heist

KARACHI: In a bank heist, six robbers made away with Rs two million from a private bank branch at Maripur Road of the metropolis, ARY News reported Wednesday.

Six armed robbers broke into the bank at 3:50pm and took away the cash available at the counter, police sources said.

The robbers did not approach the main vault of the bank and left the bank premises within two minutes after snatching cash from the counter, the sources further said.

Two security guards were taken into custody for not resisting during the robbery bid and on suspicion of being involved in the crime.

The police have acquired the robbery’s CCTV footage for identification of the suspects.

Police have lodged a case against unidentified armed robbers and a hunt for the suspects was underway in light of the CCTV footage.

It is worth mentioning here that a rise in bank robberies have been noted in the current year.

Sindh Inspector General (IG) AD Khawaja has also taken notice of the fourth bank robbery in the metropolis this year and sought detailed report from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police South.

Sindh police chief has also directed the DIG CIA to play its role in arresting the suspects behind the robbery in the light of collected evidences and staff members’ statements from the crime scene.
